1time will launch its Mombasa route in March, with two direct flights a week from OR Tambo International Airport to Mombasa International Airport. This new route complements 1time's other intra-Africa destinations, with two weekly flights to Zanzibar, Tanzania, as well as five weekly flights to Livingstone, Zambia.
"1time has already encountered great success with our Zanzibar route, with load factors over 75%, providing highly satisfactory yields. We believe that the success we have already encountered in Zanzibar will be repeated in Mombasa owing to the many similarities of the two markets," says Rodney James, CEO of 1time Airline.
Mombasa, which is Kenya's second largest city, is rapidly developing as a favourite holiday destination, owing to its ideal holiday setting, which includes a tropical climate, water sport activities, golfing as well as the nearby Tsavo National Game Park.
James says that 1time expects between 200 and 300 passengers to frequent Mombasa every week.
He concludes that the new route will benefit not only tourists but business travellers as well.
"Mombasa is known as an inexpensive international holiday destination but also generates substantial business traffic. By offering this route, we plan to offer business travellers and leisure passengers a comfortable, affordable and convenient alternative to international carriers."
