National Zoological Gardens of South Africa
The Pretoria Zoo, as it's more commonly known, is the largest in the country and the only zoo with national status. There's a huge collection of animals, great walks, and a cable car that traverses the length of the zoo, allowing you to see all the animals from up above.

Wonderboom Nature Reserve
Lying north of Pretoria and straddling the Magaliesberg mountains, the Wonderboom Nature Reserve is a stunning and tranquil 200-hectare reserve. Its massive wonderboom fig tree is over 1 000 years old, and legend has it that it grew this big because the chief of an indigenous tribe lies buried beneath its roots.

Austin Roberts Bird Sanctuary
The Austin Roberts Bird Sanctuary offers visitors a good opportunity to see some of the more common birds up close. The sanctuary is a great place for a Sunday afternoon family outing or a short tranquil walk. Around 170 species have been recorded and birders will see around 40 species in a short morning visit.
