Cape Town has one of the finest casino resorts in South Africa. Grand West Casino and Entertainment World was completed in December 2000 at a cost of over R1.5-billion.

Plays by great South African writers such as world renowned Athol Fugard are often produced at the more established venues, which also showcase vibrant physical theater by extraordinary artists like Andrew Buckland. A more recent development is the emergence of cutting-edge comedy with a distinctive South African flavour.

For bigger scale productions and dramas look to Artscape and the Baxter Theatre. For fresh, original storytelling from a South Afrifcan perspective try The Postbox Theatre, Kalk Bay Theatre or On Broadway.
For the crème de la crème of South African theatre don't miss the Spier Arts Amphitheatre at the Spier Wine Estate near Stellenbosch. Every year the Spier Arts Summer Season, held from December to March, is received with widespread critical acclaim by South African and international press, as well as our audiences. The festival has established a strong reputation for the quality and diversity of performance achieved over its annual season.

Then there's Pieter Dirk Uys, better know as Evita Bezuidenhout or Tannie Evita ("Aunty Evita"), a South African institution. Don't miss any opportunity to see him perform at his theatre in Darling, some 70 kilometres north of Cape Town. Evita often makes appearances at Spier and UCT's Intimate Theatre too. Evita Se Perron in Darling is Pieter Dirk Uys' home and personal, perfectly South African playground. He is a master of the theatrical craft and a cabaret virtuoso.

What you will most remember, however, is his overwhelmingly brilliant comic satire, which is highly sophisticated yet easily accessible.
