Location, location, location. It really can make all the difference especially when it comes to asking the one you love to spend the rest of their lives with you.

When it comes to popping the question - make sure you have the perfect ring, outfit and of course, the perfect venue - make it memorable no matter what.

GoTravel24 (and some of our readers thanks to our Facebook group) has listed ten of the top engaging spots to pop the big question in South Africa. And yes, they won't cost you an arm or a leg...

1) Cape Point at sunset

Pack a picnic basket and a blanket to keep warm before whisking your loved one away to Cape Point. Breathe in the fresh crisp air and scenic views of this wild coastline with its clean white beaches.

Cape Town boasts Cape Point as one of the greatest landmarks in the world, jutting like a rocky knife into the swirling Atlantic Ocean.

It was here that Bartholomeu Diaz, the Portuguese navigator, first rounded the Cape in 1488, searching for a trade route to India and the East. The large stone cross in the reserve commemorates his achievement.

The ring on her finger will commemorate an even bigger achievement of yours when she says yes...

With this view, proposing at Cape Point is a sure-fire winner

2) Lake Kenmo in the Drakensburg

This place just seems to ooze love especially when you consider how it got it's name. Lake Kenmo is the creation of the late Kenneth Lund and his wife, Mona (the "Ken" and "Mo" of Kenmo), who bought the Southern Berg farm in 1937.

Imagine your love recorded in history like that.

Take a stroll next to the lake, which in autumn boasts dazzling red and orange-leafed trees, reflected in mirror-like water. Not a bad location at all...

3) Cradle of Humankind

Why not start off your journey as husband and wife where all things human are believed to have begun?

There is just a special significance to this. Don't worry though. It's not your run of the mill visit to this World Heritage Site in Johannesburg.  Take your loved one on a hot air balloon ride and show them a view with a difference.

Then, while they are gasping at the gorgeous view, take their breath away with that stunning ring you've had hidden all day.

4) Table Mountain

Some call it cliché, while many others call it the ideal spot to propose. Cape Town certainly is one of South Africa's most beautiful cities with its spectacular sunsets and breathtaking scenery. It can inspire even the hardest hearted male into song.

Take her to the top of Table Mountain overlooking the city and the magnificent oceans. There is no better view, but that's not the only reason you're there. Watching your intended's face light up as she takes in the Mother City is enough for you to slip you hand into your pocket and go down on one knee...

Lake Kenmo - an atmosphere of serenity

5) Durban's Botanical Gardens

Durban's Botanical Gardens are renowned for having one of the finest collection of plant life in Africa.

Established in 1851 the gardens, on Sydenham Hill Road west of the Greyville Race Track, are the city's oldest natural attraction, providing a relaxing spot to stroll among huge indigenous and exotic trees, and the stunning orchid house display.

The gardens are also abuzz with birdlife and boast a lovely tea garden.

I don't think we need to tell you that there's just something about a floral environment that makes a girl swoon.

6) Knysna

Knysna is one of the Southern Cape Coast's best known holiday destinations, situated between lush forests and the shores of the peaceful lagoon - it offers many attractions and a wide variety of - including proposing.

All you need in this natural setting is a ring, your plan of action and the girl of your dreams...

7) The Kruger National Park

Aah, yes. The Kruger Park. If your eyebrows rose a bit initially, don't worry. So did mine. What is so romantic about being in the middle of bush amidst wild animals with no one around you except the sunset and cool breeze? Exactly that!

Think about it - there is absolutely no one to spoil the time you and your loved one have planned and the calm atmosphere of the African plain ensures no disruptions when you look into her eyes (that are shining as bright as the very visible stars) and ask her to be your wife.

Keep in mind - you'll have a bush orchestra as your background music too. Bonus.

8) The Cape Winelands

Proposing in the Winelands is something to consider

The Winelands is a proud part of Cape Town which is visible for visitors and locals alike. The fertile green valleys of the Cape Winelands are surrounded by majestic mountain ranges.

However you decide to propose, the warm climate and sunny skies will never disappoint. You can choose from a picnic on the lush green grass to wine tasting under the shade of a tree that was planted hundreds of years before you visited it.

Maybe you can plant your very own tree with the ring hanging on a tiny branch. You can watch your love blossom from a small shrub into a sturdy tree...

9) Hermanus

Hermanus is one of the most beautiful towns in South Africa. There is just something so magical about this old fisherman's village; it's enough to make anyone quiver with anticipation.

Standing on the edge of the town, look across the ocean and spot the whales making their regular visit to the town thanks to the world's only whale crier.

And once the excitement's over, sit her down on one of the benches and pop the question with the ambiance of crashing waves in the background.

10) Johannesburg

The Westcliff hotel in Johannesburg boasts a great location on a hilltop overlooking one of the most vibrant, bright and diverse cities in South Africa. Wait till sunset and take the love of your life to see the city coated in the sun's golden glow and ask her to be yours forever...
