Sometimes having a big lavish wedding can be detrimental to any couple preparing to tie the knot. If you're not ready to endure all the stress that comes with it why not try a celeb phenomenon - and elope.

The stigma usually associated with eloping - defying parents and the norms of society to run away with your loved one and get married secretly - is long past its sell-by date.

These days it's all about practicality - and it's not all negative either. There are actually many positives attributes to the practice that can make that day extra special - even in South Africa.

Spur of the moment… but not quite Vegas

We chatted to a couple who skipped the conventional way of getting married by tying the knot at the SEXPO

Jannie Saayman who married James Saayman: “We decided to get married at SEXPO as we wanted something small and quick.

We've been staying together for five years. I read about SEXPO in the newspaper Die Burger, it was perfect and just what we wanted. At first I was a bit nervous because of all the sex-related things and strippers.

But it was clean and good fun.

Five years sealed in five minutes

Everything happened so quickly. But it is something I will remember for the rest of my life. As we arrived the minister introduced himself and we filled in all the necessary papers - five minutes later were married.”

The pros…
• It can be cheaper. Eloping will cost you a fraction of the price of what a big wedding may cost.
• There is no need for a wedding planner.
• You get to avoid all family arguments about the wedding.
• The honeymoon begins the minute you say, “I do”… exchange your vows in an exotic location makes this convenient.
• Eloping also helps sort out any qualms if your families stay far apart - especially so if your family can’t agree on a wedding location.
• It's a private and intimate affair.

The cons…
There aren’t that many though but should be considered.
Family and friends will feel offended and hurt for not being part of your special day. However, you can consider a welcome home reception for those who feel jilted.
• You may miss the opportunity to capture a grand affair on camera and share it with your children one day.
• If your parents don’t approve, family conflict may be inevitable.

So if you considering on planning that big day, book one of our packages.

Eloping

We eloped in Cape town - married by Rev. Dion Black - It was great! Just the two of us (he provided the witnesses) and then we had our honeymoon by the sea! Needless to say, there were lots of questions asked on our return, but I would recommend it anytime!

Great Idea

My husband and I discussed doing this - and eventually decided not to due to his mother's influence. Needless to say all the old bat did was complain anyway!! We should have just eloped
