You can choose between urban day spas, hotel spas or a spa retreat. There's nothing like a massage and facial to make your mom feel rejuvenated. Top it off with a manicure and a pedicure. Not every working mother has time to treat herself to one of these and she'll appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Make it last with some Theatre divine

Treat your mom to some old-world charm. Try a night out at one of the many prestigious theatres around the country.  She may enjoy Twisted Bones at Durban's Playhouse. This innovative new piece of contemporary dance runs in the Loft from 8 to 11 May 2008. It illustrates how people discover a common base by simply helping each other out. And nobody knows more about sharing than mom.

Cape Town's Baxter theatre and Artscape is never short on good quality productions. Pretoria's State Theatre is the country's thespian doyenne, book for its production Silent Voice starring Presley Choeneyagae of the Oscar-winning Tsotsi.
 
But why not make it something that will show you care throughout the year.  you can purchase a season ticket at Monte Casino in Johannesburg - after all if dad can have one for the cricket, why can't she. They both may enjoy Defending the Caveman, which runs until June.

She'll cherish the simple things
Whether it be Mother's Day or a free day on the weekend, mom will appreciate you simply making the effort to spend quality time with her. She'll love some decadent indulgence such as High Tea at the Nellie. 

But, as most of you know, even a picnic with her grandkids would tug at her heartstrings.

Make it a family effort and create a 'Thanks Mom' book. Put a special message of thanks on each page such as, "Thanks for teaching us the benefit of hard work" or "Thanks for making me take piano lessons, a piano is much harder to lose than a violin". She can reread it to remind her how much she is loved.
