At one point or another you'll find yourself in the position of having to plan your best friend's bachelorette or at the very least attend one.

And if you haven't cottoned on to the trend that hen parties have moved way past the kitchen then it's a good thing you're a GoTravel24 reader.

Fortunately for us girls we never plan these sorts of events with the intention of getting our BFF totally motherless and embarrassing them on street corners - what is it with bachelor boys and cross dressing anyway?

But let's not pretend we're angels - well maybe we are but that's our Victoria secret - meaning that a bachelorette celebration needn't necessarily be boring.

Bachelorette party - Scene One:
A group of females, all headed out to the Breede River to celebrate one of the many milestones in the journey of womanhood.

The Winelands region is only one stunning location in and around South Africa you could choose from. Choose a location that is suitable and convenient for everybody.

The benefit of this is that you all get to car pool or club together with the car hire, keeping travelling expenses to a minimum. Also, on the night of the main party there will be no need to have designated drivers if anybody is over-indulging - those Pongracz bubbles have a way of going straight to the head, don't they?

Additionally, doing a group booking may allow you to secure a reduced rate. Self-catering accommodation also takes a load off the budget - but remember somebody is going to have to do the cooking and cleaning. Time is money after all.

Check out Fish Eagle Lodge for a private celebration that should have your bride-to-be satisfied with her adieu to singledom.

Bachelorette party - Scene Two:
Right, so going away for a few days isn't exactly an option but you'd still like to treat your friend to a memorable experience. A spa pamper party ends up doubling as preparing your friend for her big day - the bride is often given extra attention and certain treatments can be thrown in as a bonus.

By making a group booking you minimise the stress of having to plan an entertaining itinerary, as these themed spa experiences take care of the day for you. Don't forget about all the additional facilities such as plunge pools, saunas and steam baths that will allow you to relax and enjoy some quality time with your friends, either before or after therapists takes care of everybody's grooming needs. Not only that they'll provide healthy snacks and treats for all of you to indulge into.

Check out the Mount Nelson's Labrisa Spa Pamper Parties package:
• Polish change for Hands and Feet
• Eyebrow Shape
• Lash Tint
• Full use of spa facilities (plunge pool, sauna, steam room, relaxation conservatory)
• Complimentary One-hour Massage Voucher for guest of honour
• Complimentary fruit snack platter & fresh fruit juice

Price: R350 per person (maximum eight guests per party)

And who says it has to end there. You could then proceed to book dinner for the girls at the hotel's sumptuous Cape Colony Restaurant or drinks at the Planet Champagne Bar.

We have some other budget Spa options for you to consider.

Whatever you decide to do, keep in mind, it's her big celebration of singledom:

- Don't do anything to embarrass her or make her feel uncomfortable.

- Now is not the time to see how much alcohol she can actually consume.

- The weekend of or the night before the wedding is not a good time to have this party.

- If a stripper will make her feel uncomfortable, enough said.

- Pole dancing lessons and other fun games are perhaps the better option.

- Spoiling her with sexy lingerie is always welcome but make sure she agrees to everybody snapping away at her modelling her new lacy wardrobe.

We'd love to hear about your experience or suggestions so why not post a comment below or send us some of your holiday snaps.

Enjoy a sensual spa treatment. Our packages include flights, car rental, accommodation and meals.

Bachelorette Party

Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 11/18/2009 - 10:58.

We recently held a bachelorette's for a friend, instead of your usual we decided on something a bit different and had a belly dancing class instead. It was tons of fun and even the shyest of us was excited to take part. Astrid made the class fun and though I was sore in more places than I knew I could be it was tons beter than the normal "naughty" events that take place. You can look her up: Astrid Lewis - Oriental Fusion.

You waddled with a paddle?

You waddled with a paddle? Could be quite dangerous while chasing rapids and would bring a whole new meaning to the term 'whitewash'. Best reserve these antics for outside of the boat...'oar' else. I agree with the Anonymous Commentator on this one: Bachelorette parties are much crazier and wilder. My wife got invited to one last month and won't say a word but now sits quietly in a corner of our house knitting woolly socks. What do you girls get up to?

It happens!

Hi Anonymous...

Thanks for posting the comment. I'm sure there are some sleazy antics that take place at both bachelor and bachelorette parties. In my opinion, these folks need to question how much they value the commitments they've made or are about to make.

The bachelorette party we threw for one of my best friends in the Breede River did have two 'guys' there - though these were make-believe - two oars for a paddle boat which we dubbed 'Hardy and Stephanus' - we used it as poles for our dancing antics.

These events should be fun and not leave anybody regretting anything I say! :)

Guys would be horrified if

Guys would be horrified if they knew what their girlfriends and wifes get up to at bachelorette parties. I work providing a service to these parties, and although not all get out of hand, a fair proportion do. There are still the innocent parties which are great and a pleasure to entertain at, but then there are your more street wise girls - I would say roughly 30% to 40% of the bachelorette parties I do. The girls get all coked up, do things with male strippers that aren't allowed at strip clubs that guys go to like Teazers. The more 'money'ed the girls are, the worse it generally is. These parties have changed dramatically over the past 10 years, definitely not for the better. The worst are the married girls at these parties, they act as if they are single and go totally over board. You can try and argue with me if you like about this, but I know all this from first hand experience.
