Durban fun
Take the kids to Durban this school holidays. From as little as R1 249, its a definite steal...

Nicole Fox - that sexy, raspy radio voice we've grown accustomed to has the face to match, after all she has made the FHM 100 Sexiest Women in the World list three times. Recently engaged and on the brink of a major career change, we caught up with the Fox to find out about her travelling tendencies...
Gotravel24.com: You recently got engaged, any idea where you’d like to go on honeymoon?
Nicole Fox: “As long as it involves a tropical island getaway, pristine white beaches, turquoise sea and nothing to do but relax I'll be in my element.”
You’re one of the hottest faces and voices in SA, do you mind being recognised while taking some time out?
“No, not at all! I was actually in Mumbai, India in January, walking down the Colaba Causeway one day when a young lady recognised me. It turned out she and her whole family were there on holiday from South Africa and we took photos together right there on the street.”
Are you mostly a bush baby, eco adventurer, extreme thrill-seeker, beach bandit, or five-star freak?
“I'd say it's a combination between five-star freak and beach bandit. I absolutely love beach holidays and they're usually my first choice for great holiday relaxation. But I do like to do it in style and I tend to choose hotels with a great design sensibility and with all the amenities including a fabulous spa!”
Local is lekker when you find yourself in...
“The bushveld around a camp fire eating braaivleis!”
My favourite hangout in the global village is...
“New York City. I love the energy and vibe and I have some really good friends who live there so it's always an extra-special experience for me.”
Your travel nightmare would have to be...
“Transit! I hate being stuck in transit after two connecting flights waiting to board yet another one. I always try and fly as direct as possible to minimise the drama.”
Your dream getaway would see you...
“Going to the Antarctic, doing an around-the-world trip or going into space. Particularly with global warming the Antarctic trip is pretty high on my agenda of ‘to-do's’.”
Travelling in style is...
“non-negotiable!”
Are you a walking holiday itinerary or a spontaneous relaxation rebel?
“I am the ultimate organiser and tend to plan everything upfront. I'm one of those tourists with at least two guide books on hand! I'm a curious traveller so I like to go to a new destination every time and I like to explore the area I'm in really soaking up the culture. I also like travelling with people who are similar to me in that way because we're guaranteed of having some great adventures and experiences. “
Have you had or made any mile-high club propositions?
“Ha ha, no! But a friend of mine, on a long-haul flight once, came back to his seat from a bathroom visit only to find another passenger had left a little note on his seat - how cute!”
Your ideal travel companion is...
“My fiancée, best friend or mom.”
You never travel without your...
“Tickets, money, passport, cell on roaming, a guide book, international plug and Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream.
Tip to make and not break the holiday...
“Plan any trips to big cities around the bi-annual sale times and take an empty suitcase with you. You can find sales overseas with up to 70% off so you can literally buy an entire new wardrobe at a fraction of the cost.”
What keeps you coming back for more...
“A total break from reality, an experience and good service.”
Apart from focusing on her TV career, Nicole also wants to explore options behind the scenes and in the broader media industry – to build on the Journalism honours and Economics degrees she earned at Rhodes.
After eight years on air at national radio station 5fm, catch Nicole’s last weekly night time show for 5FM on 31 March 2008. “It is very sad for me to leave 5FM, which has been my home for so many years, filled with numerous special memories & career achievements – but, life moves on and new opportunities are arising.”
