Quanita Adams unpacks

August 4th, 2008
You may recognise Quanita Adams from the odd appearance in television adverts but she's critically acclaimed for her one woman show At her Feet which she performed in New York.
We chat to her about her globetrotting.
Quanita's performance in this play Nadia Davids also won her a Fleur de Cap Best Actress Award.
She also travels the world with the production Truth in Translation, which opened in Rwanda. A city she describes as beautiful, difficult, painful and a gateway to one of her most formative experiences as an actor, a woman and a human being.
Gotravel24.com: You're a regular on stages and televisions across SA, what's the craziest thing a fan has done to try and get your attention.
Quanita Adams: "Nothing actually, they are usually great and love to chat I did recently have a young woman give me a great discount on a pair of shoes... does that count?

You've recently returned from Grahamstown after touring with the production
Cissie which just finished its run at the Baxter theatre, what was it like?
"Grahamstown was lovely and COLD!!! The audiences were great, very appreciative.
What's the most exciting place your acting career has taken you too?
"New York! Though I have been fortunate to travel to many wonderful places including Rwanda and the States - as well as all over our country.
Your favourite travel anecdote is...
"There are too many to mention, but I did manage to learn to say, 'No I am not Macy Gray, are you blind!?!' in Norwegian. So you can just imagine what prompted me to learn that Mantra.
Are you a bush baby, eco adventurer, extreme thrill-seeker, beach bandit, or
five-star freak?
"It depends; I am not a bush baby, though I don't need five stars to have a special time. I love the beach but I thrive in the cities - I love urban landscapes.
Best local hangout would have to be?
"I love Genadendal in the Cape. People are warm and there are donkeys! In Cape Town - everything - it's so gorgeous and I love all the factory shopping. In Joburg the inner city is a treasure trove of shops and people. Fordsburg is a dream.
Favourite hangout in the global village is...
"Nolita and China Town in New York. The beaches in Mallorca.
Your travel nightmare would have to be...
"Drunk belligerent people and being late.
Travelling in style is...
"Having time to get where you need to be feeling and looking refreshed and without being rushed. But no too much time so you feel exhausted! I guess flying first class (hint, hint service providers... hahaha)
Are you a walking holiday itinerary or a spontaneous relaxation rebel?
"I love walking and getting lost in strange places - but on my own terms. Don't really like itineraries all that much.
Have you had or made any mile-high club propositions?
"Um... no
Your ideal travel companion is...
"Music
You never travel without your...
"Camera. Yay! It's an old Pentax K1000. We've been through so much. And wet wipes. And gum.
Tip to make and not break the holiday...
"Just have fun, be prepared to stray, eat with the locals, get lost and just buy it!!!
What keeps you coming back for more...
"Passion, the excitement, the joy, the potential to laugh and cry. And remembering what it is that makes me love what I do. I really am blessed."
