A safari trek through the Wilderness Trail allows you to track lions, rhinos, elephants, leopards and buffalos. Other fauna include gazelles, impalas, hyenas, zebras and giraffes.
The Primitive Trail is easily the most taxing yet satisfying. On this five-day, four-night trek you'll have to lug all your own gear and cook by campfire. But the experiences on hand make it worth it. And if you’re brave enough, you can do a ten mile through the hyenas’ territory.
The Traditional Trail uses mules to lug your gear and the duration is three days. It’s a riverside base camp, in case you’re wondering what makes it traditional.
Durban-based Gibela Safaris can arrange the Wilderness Trail hikes in Imfolozi. They provide transport to the park, along with tours of other attractions.
Zulu cultural trips to the Drakensberg Mountains will also be on the itinerary. Visit their site for more information.
Cape Town is definitely not a city to overlook.
The options here and in the surrounding regions are endless.
You can do mountain biking at Tokai Forest Reserve. Or try your nerve at abseiling more than 1200m above sea level.
There’s also sea kayaking for your pleasure at Hout Bay.
Long beach offers horseback riding along the shore. If you feel like venturing further into nature’s beauty, then try the Cape Point Nature Reserve. Its a few hours away and shows you the natural personality of the Cape with its many varieties of fauna and flora.
Or you could set some time aside to taste the endless wines of Stellenbosch’s vineyards as well as those of Franschhoek and Paarl.
The aquatically obsessed can be grateful for their food chain position upon visiting the Shark Valley off Dyer Island. The cage diving should keep the predators at bay. If you’re all about discovery, then scuba dive. There are many ship wrecks cluttering the sea floor of the Cape Coast for you to prod at.
On the southern coast lies Jeffrey’s Bay, one of the world’s prime surf spots. In other words, a surfer’s haven. Go travelling; it’s the perfect time of year.
