Trevor Immelman has become the first South African to win the US Masters in 30 years. Hailing from Cape Town, Gotravel24.com chats to him about his travelling tendancies.
Gotravel24.com: As a popular South African sports personality, does it bother you being
recognised while on holiday?
Trevor Immelman: "No, it’s part of my lifestyle. As a professional golfer I’ve always known I’d have certain responsibilities that come with the job. If I get recognised on holiday I must be doing something right on the golf course."
When on holiday is a golf course optional or an absolute must?
"When I am on holiday, there must be NO golf course. I enjoy my time off with my family and friends and getting away from the golf course is one of the ways I relax. It’s just like anyone else taking a holiday from their job."
Are you a bush baby, eco adventurer, extreme thrill-seeker, beach bandit, or
five-star freak?
"I really enjoy spending time on the beach, be it swimming in the sea, throwing a rugby ball around or just getting a tan. I really find the beach a good place to get away from the golf course."
Local is lekker when you find yourself in...
"Having a braai with family and friends at our home in Somerset West. I love coming back to South Africa, and especially Somerset West where a grew up. "
My favourite hangout in the global village is...
"My home in The United States with my family and friends."
Your travel nightmare would have to be...
"Arriving at an airport to find out your flight has been cancelled. As a professional golfer I spend a lot of time at airports and flying around the world. Living out a suitcase for weeks on end can be tough and having your flights cancelled on top of this is always a travel nightmare. "
Your dream getaway would see you...
To go diving in an exotic location like the Great Barrier Reef or Indonesia.
Travelling in style is...
"Flying privately is my view of travelling in style. As I’ve mentioned I do a lot of travelling, so when I get the chance to travel privately with my family it’s always a great pleasure. "
Are you a walking holiday itinerary or a spontaneous relaxation rebel?
"When I’m on holiday I’m definitely a Spontaneous Relaxation Rebel. Being able to take each day as it comes and enjoy your surroundings is what I like. Relaxation is the key to a good holiday."
Have you had or made any mile-high club propositions?
Your ideal travel companion is...
"My wife, Carminita."
You never travel without your...
"My iPhone and my passport."
Tip to make and not break the holiday...
"Always take your credit card along; you never know when you’re going to need it!"
What keeps you coming back for more...
"You might never get another chance."

OZ
I have been living in OZ for 10 years now, and still considder myself a South African. It was great to see Trevor win the Green jacket and the style he has done it in. PS the worst Afrikaner accents come from the English spealing Afrikaners, blieve it or not !
I've been living in Denmark
I've been living in Denmark for a few years now and I definitely do not consider myself to be Danish. Its guys like you that give idiots a bad name!
Immelman
This guy is a good golfer, does not have that disgusting gutteral SA accent, should not be playing for South Africa while earning his keep in another country.
His wife should touch up the black roots of her bottle blonde hair, sis it looked bleary ugly.
Engles por favor
Is this what you meant to say, cause I didnt quite get your grammar?
I think we should all live in our little mud huts, in the middle of nowhere and live our lives to the lowest potential, even though we have the best skills in the world.... blah blah blah
Ignorant!
Immelman
Jealousy makes you nasty!!! Perhaps you should learn to spell before you make a further fool of yourself.
Grow up!
Don't you have anything better to do than notice roots...Trevor is putting SA on the golfing map again, still loves the country and had to make sacrifices to get there {one ...playing regularly on the PGA tour} What are you doing besides hairdressing? You should be proud of him and his feats.
Not South African
Why is he considered South African when he lives in the US? The minute a person choses to live in another country - I think they forego their right to call themselves South Africans.
Its bloody annoying - should we be proud cos he represented SA????
Its like this bloody thing with Charlize Theron - she's not bloody S African - maybe our sports and movies especially our movies will improve if our so called South African citizens actually lived in the blood country
Not South African
"Blood country' it certainly is! Possibly you have not had the chance to go 'global' and experience what it is like to live in a safer environment, shall we say in a 'bloodless field'.
Folks living abroad, in the main, cherish their homeland and harbour a great separation anguish, remaining proudly South African. High achieving or celebrity South Africans create an enormous POSITIVE effect on the international community. One that engenders admiration of and CURIOSITY about this so perceived third-world country that produces world class competitive and honoured citizens in every sphere. Unanticipated benefits germinate from this - good for all in the broader picture. But for now, it would seem the prevailing view is 'nice place, but very bloody'.
Thank you Trevor Immelman - stick it to man!!!
I guess then Ernie Els
I guess then Ernie Els should be considered English, since he lives in England, Retief Goosen well his American, he, my friend lives in Orlando, and then 'groot bek' Rory Sabbatini is also American, well maybe he can be since he has the whole accent thing down, wake up china and stop being so ignorant! These guys do what they love and with that comes decisions and sacrifices, moving out of SA for better opportunities, well that's not a sacrifice...just common sense. And talking about improvement...do some research and tell me that the South African film industry didn't improve, SUURDRUIWE POEPHOL!! That's what this is about.
Mr. South Africa
Lets make it simple.......
Trevor lives in the US because the US has more to offer him!
Trevor is now a major winner and lets not forget about the $1,350,000 paycheck this weekend !
When last did the Sunshame tour pay that kinda money or have the same level of recognition worldwide?
Im sorry my friend but someone with that much skill and talent deserves to be where he is! Unfortunately South Africa cannot provide that level of worldwide recognition; even though with all my heart I do wish some day we get a major tournament in SA.
If I could leave my electrified, burglar bared house here in Joburg for that opportunity...... See ya! And I would still be PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN!
Welcome to the 21st
Welcome to the 21st century...ever left your little home? You never know how long people will be ambassadors for their country before returning and if they don't ...more power to them.
There is a big old world out there and if your home country limits your dreams and opportunity to travel and explore and further your career...should they be kicked out of their own country if another place in the world offers that oppurtunity?
Who is more patriotic...someone representing their country through historical achievements/talents or someone wanting to drag them down by saying they are no longer South Africans because they chose to chase their dreams?
Living in another country
Living in another country does not meen you have to give up your citizenship! You can actually maintain being a SA citizen for the rest of your life, because SA accepts dual citizenship! We've been in the States for almost nine years now, but SA will always be home sweat home! Ironically, you really appreciated being a SA when your not living there anymore. Yes, we are extremely proud Trevor represented SA! We wish him the best of luck with his golfing career, being in South Africa or the States. Will always be proud of being a South African!
Seriously?
Not South African you say? people like you make no sense.. how can your green blood be drained from your body because you live on foreign soil?? dude, maybe you have not been overseas, South Africa is the best country for sure, but we do not have the funding and resources like the US - there is a reason the US is the global leader, a first world country, I live in the US and I am happy about that, but I am always South African and I represent my country on a daily basis and carry our name high! Tell me, what good does it do by being negative about our success overseas?? Should every nationality live within their borders - small town attitude rounds you up son.
South African
He stays in USA because most golfing tournaments are there!! He is proudly South African, support him, dont shoot him down. Geez...
