The month of July is set to be fashionably green. Scheduled events will have your pulse racing, whether you decide to participate or simply watch from the sand lines. Surfing, kiting, skipping and an upcoming earth festival will see you warding off any lingering winter blues as you get ready for spring.

Don’t miss the Isuzu Berg River Canoe race in Paarl. This amazing race throws everything at its participants. Although it doesn’t all have to be strenuous, book a midweek break and enjoy the buzz until the 5th.

You have until September 15 to enjoy the Table Mountain family winter special – two children under 18 years get a free return trip if accompanied by a full paying adult.

One of the world’s longest running international surfing competitions, the six star Mr Price Pro surfing competition kicks off on the 29th June. Catch it at its new location, Durban’s New Pier.

A weekend is not enough to enjoy the annual Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival, which will be running until the 3th. This year’s program has over than 70 sports and lifestyle events - more than enough reason for an extended stay, otherwise just come for the oysters.

Haul out the haute courtier in Durban as Africa’s thoroughbred horses storm down the home straight to the finish of the R2-million Vodacom Durban July.  If in Jozi then make some time for all things culinary at the Sunday Times Food Show in Sandton. You can indulge your appetite until the 08th. Otherwise snap up images depicting the wonder and importance of the natural world at the Wildlife photographer of the year exhibition at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. The exhibition is sponsored by Animal Planet in conjunction with the Natural History Museum of London and BBC Wildlife Magazine and runs until the 29th.

Festivals are a Franschhoek specialty so get ready for all things French. The town celebrates its Huguenot heritage with a Bastille Day Festival. Wear a beret with reckless abandon and enjoy highlights of the weekend, which include a French Film Festival, Barrel Rolling competitions and a chic Bastille Ball.

Judah’s Square comes alive with the annual Rastafarian Earth Festival. Activities include live bands and explanations on the Rastafarian way of live. It runs until the 31st.
