Calling all June bugs

While the rest of SA languishes in the clutches of winter those down in Durbs are thankful for a little Indian Ocean respite.  June has lots to offer in terms of sport and fashion. Check out some of the following during your mid-year break.

East London’s answer to the June/July school holidays is the Wild Coast Jikeleza Country Fair. A wet and wild sporting spectacle with Power Boat Racing and the much-anticipated Ox-on-Spit event. You also have until September 15 to enjoy the Table Mountain family winter special – two children under 18 years get a free return trip if accompanied by a full paying adult.

Get ready for some wining and golfing.  The unpretentious Wacky wine weekend takes place in Robertson. Wineries from Ashton, Bonnievale, McGregor and Robertson will once again pull out all the stops so come along and enjoy. Playing golf is more than just a fad, but does potting a hole or two for charity make it even more appealing? You decide at the Honorary Rangers of the Addo Elephant National Park’s 3rd annual golf day in Humewood. All funds raised will assist towards the further improvement of facilities and conservation support work for this prime tourism destination in the Eastern Cape.

The 90km Comrades Marathon has become a South African institution. Be one of the thousands of participants who run between the capital of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg and the coastal city of Durban. But don't forget this is also dad's special day.

Experience the up and coming talent of the South African Jazz scene. SA’s top jazz musicians such as Alvin Dyers, Melanie Scholtz and Lucas Khumaloc hone the talents of young jazz aspirants and bands. The mentoring process culminates in a Youth Jazz Festival in Cape Town.

The Grahamstown National Arts Festival is Africa's largest and most colourful cultural event. It offers a choice of the very best of both indigenous and imported talent. It runs for 11 days, till 5 June. There is no much do and to see and should definitely not be missed.

SA’ top fashion designers descend on the city for the MTN Durban Fashion Week, now in its third year. If you’re looking to deck yourself out in the latest designer talent then this event is a must.
