12 Must-have iPhone travel apps

The amazing and ever-growing list of iPhone applications available today includes a plethora of useful tools for the tech-savvy traveller. Here’s a selection of our favourites.
1. SitOrSquat
First things first. What is the single most important bit of information a tourist needs in foreign climes? Directions to the nearest bathroom, right!? This handy app will help you find a toilet when you need it most.
2. Dopplr
Dopplr is one of several popular social networking sites for travel fundis. This “social atlas” uses your iPhone’s GPS abilities to show you nearby sites of interest, eateries, museums, hotels and much more, all of them tried, tested and recommended by the growing community of Dopplr users. You can read online books on your laptop/any smartphone. The question is do you want to.... NO because your eyes will feel like they have been dragged though the Sahara. Kindle's have electronic ink and therefore read like a normal book. |

Most of these functions can be done on any of todays smart phones, not just the iphone. But BEWARE roaming data rates can be up to R1000 (one thousand!!!) per Mb. You can have a huge bill within days. The only thing to when travelling is to use local sim cards. |

these applications sound cool but what i find most with them is they are not designed for the South African use. |
