Frozen lip-licking delights
November 21st, 2008
With summer approaching, ice-cream is on every ones lips. Literally. Gotravel24 discovered an ice cream sensation that promises not to pack on the pounds and is a favourite for every member of the family.
The name: Gelato Mania… I am as big an ice-cream lover as they come.
When I heard about an ice-cream that was healthy, virtually fat and sugar free and still very enjoyable, I raised a very sceptical eyebrow.
So I gathered some very reliable taste testers (between the ages of 1 and 40-years-old) and off we went to Green Point to try out this new healthy summer sensation.
If they were approved by my family (they consider themselves ice cream experts), I was positive that it would be loved by all who tried it.
A little history… Gelato Mania is a unique gelateria found only in the Western Cape. This little bit of heaven specializes in homemade Italian style ice cream. (Gelato)
It is made daily using the highest quality ingredients. The pride that all those involved with Gelato Mania possess is evident. Nothing is compromised when it comes to taste and value which is the reason why only the freshest cream hormone-free cows milk is used in the making of this product.
The smooth textured sensation that passes your lips is the result of no vegetable or animal fats but rather fresh cream.
This is what makes Gelato Mania unique to any other ice cream parlour.
For all kinds of people Gelato Mania boasts an assortment of products. (Which I must admit, impressed me very much!) Their premium product Gelato comes in an assortment of flavours served in a tub or sugar cone with toppings of your choice at a small extra cost.
Sorbets are created with a range of seasonal fruit as an option for those craving a more fruity flavour.
Their yoghurt range comes in a variety of different flavours. For those not convinced yet, their yoghurt received a gold award for best in category in 2006 at the Cheese festival held in the Western Cape.
Diabetic individuals are also considered by Gelato Mania who boasts a range of products aimed to ensure enjoyment for all.
Once you get passed the array of products, there is still another hurdle. (A good one though.)
What flavour to choose!

According to Greenpoint Gelato Mania manager Ludmilla, “It is the best ice cream in the world! All the diverse flavours sell very well, but Ferrero Roche and Yoghurt Berry Crunch is on top of the list”.
That made the choice easier for at least three of my taste testers opting for Ferrero Roche and Yoghurt Berry Crunch.
The rest… not so easy.
Finally, they settled on Mango Sorbet, After Eight Mint, Bar One, Hazelnut Cream and Diabetic Chocolate.
We ordered just in time because pretty soon, the Green Point branch of Gelato Mania open for just under a year, had its flock of devoted weekend customers.
Let the tasting begin!

Amidst the friendly environment and comfortable diner-like seating arrangements, we tucked into our ice cream delicately served in bright plastic cups with matching spoons.
Looking around, the setting of the shop was very modern but still incorporated an Old Italian spacious feel to it. Perfect for a family outing.
For a bunch of people who talk a lot, we were exceptionally quiet as we each savoured the rich, creamy flavours of our choice.
That was until my one-year-old cousin screamed for more which caused an eruption of laughter for all those in the shop.
He most definitely approves!
I absolutely loved the ice cream. It was so different in description but once you tasted it, the only difference would be its creamy sensation.
I ate in such peace knowing that it was as healthy as any ice cream could get.
At our third helping (yes I said third) we decided to sit outside.
Gelato Mania is situated in the main Road in Green Point, so it was great to enjoy the sun we never seem to see, and watch the cars and people go by whilst eating away at our new favourite summer treat.
The responses Gelato Mania, you have some new fans!
Don’t take our word for it. Try it for yourself at anyone of their branches
Thanks for the commentSubmitted by gt24.editor.kelly on Mon, 02/23/2009 - 08:22. |
Thanks for the comment anonymous. We try and highlight the best places in South Africa, which is possibly why our reviews seem consistently favourable. We also strive to be balanced in our coverage in order to be fair to the facilities in SA. It is very rare that an entire experience is bad, but rather that there were good and bad points. We try to feature both and leave it up to our users to decide for themselves. We also tend to highlight upcoming events and festivals to keep our users up to date with what's on in SA - and give a theme to our coverage. We will definitely try and show our real experiences a little more. Hopefully if you keep reading you will see that we try to be as unbiased as possible. Kelly |
Borrrrrring.....GoTravel24 is working for "The Man"Submitted by Anonymous on Sat, 02/21/2009 - 12:09. |
Seems Go Travel 24 have now become the voice of commerce instead of bringing us objective, real travel experiences. The team appears to be "used" for promotion of businesses, hotels and festivals, so us readers cannot rely on objective and reliable reviews from this site anymore. How poor, is this a travel site, or is it just another glossy advertising holiday directory in nice packaging. Also seems every place they review is good, there is no way in hell that every place they review can be good, where are the bad places that we should avoid??? Are they too afraid to name and shame?? The reviews and news here in my opinion is completely not objective. Unlike the other 24 channels, I wonder if the team actually pays for their overnight stays, lunches, etc. Avoid this site. |
