Unleash that speed freak

August 22nd, 2008
We all have a bit of a speed freak inside of us. Or at the very least we should. And it doesn't have to be expressed Formula One style or by stupidly speeding though the streets for no apparent reason.
If you sometimes feel like stomping on the gas, don't do it, rather wait until you’re safely in one of these go-karting venues.
Kenilworth karting
Kenilworth Karting has been a Cape Town favourite for a while now. It’s popular with private parties, corporate events, or just anyone looking for a heart racing activity. They even host some grand prix events that the more experienced kart racers might want to try out. But beginners are also more than welcome and if one of your party doesn't participate; there's a bar, pool tables and various other games to keep them happy.
The races are divided into 10 lap races, 15 lap races, and 20 lap races. Pay accordingly and pump that gas.

Compu-Kart
It's all high tech racing at Johannesburg's Compu-Kart indoor racing. The venue is also open for parties, individual racers, corporate functions and more. One of the really stand out features of the raceway is the grand prix divisions.
There's the mini grand prix that can accommodate up to 12 drivers of all ages. It entails a 20 lap heat for podium positions in the final race, which sees four racers competing against each other to become the overall winner.
The super grand prix is the same as the mini except you get 30 laps instead of 20 in the final race. The endurance grand prix is a super revved up and most popular format of racing here.

Grandwest Casino
You don't really go to Grandwest casino to ride on a go-kart. But if you're already there and all that gambling has gotten to your nerves, take out your frustrations at their go-karts section.

Zwartkops
This is generally used professionally by club racers from Pretoria, Joburg and those from the East and West Rand. The most popular feature of the circuit is the flyover, where the circuit crosses itself. Another famous feature of the circuit is the steep terrain.
As for pleasure rides, there are various karts available for that function. Just call and arrange for a thrilling ride.
Randburg
Randburg raceway is one of the most stand-out raceways in Johannesburg. It's popular with racers of all ages and abilities. Not only can you go for leisurely rides, they also arrange regular events. It's a great idea to see what they're doing before you visit so you can find a way to participate.
The raceway itself is an indoor facility in well-ventilated premises. It's ideal for kids, so take them there if they start to feel a bit restless.
