Consider this 5-minute city guide as your passport to the Winelands...

The green valleys of the Winelands are surrounded by proud mountain ranges. It's unique because of its many historic homesteads, fruit orchids and monuments.

Must sleep at: Protea Hotel Stellenbosch

This luscious hotel situated in the heart of the Winelands, is in one of the most beautiful and heritage conscious towns. Stellenbosch is the second-oldest town in South Africa and affectionately referred to as the “Eikestad”. Nestled between two international golf courses, this 180-bedroom hotel offers guests the best of the Winelands. Whether it’s the magnificent backdrop of mountain ranges you seek, perhaps just a scenic drive or wine tasting at the many surrounding wine farms, you will never run out of things to see and do.

Must eat at: Praca Verde Restaurant

Since it's relocation from the centre of Cape Town to Stellenbosch, Praca Verde now boasts splendid mountain views and plenty of outside seating and it is worth making the effort to drive through from Cape Town to experience the traditional Portuguese cuisine for which we are well known. The same dedication is implemented in all their signature dishes, like an Espetada from Madeira, a grilled peri-peri baby chicken from Mozambique or a Bacalhua from Portugal itself. Great care is infused in all, and quality will not be compromised in any way. Praca Verde has extended its repertoire and besides a substantial selection of breakfasts, offers plenty of tramezzinis and sandwiches (both toasted and plain). There is also a children’s menu and scones, muffins and cakes are available throughout the day. The average per person is R110.00.
