If you're a hardened skateboarder then you can probably ride on your board on any spot you choose. So when travelling you'll probably find some place (prohibited or not) to indulge your fancy.

But we've made it easier for you, even if your enthusiasm happens to be novice spectator.

Track these skateboarding locations when in Durban or Jo'burg.

We've got affordable Durban and Jo'burg deals for your convenience.

In Durban there are various locations to check out. The beachfront has a skate park where the city's boarders generally meet up for various events throughout the year.

This is also a great location for the casual skateboarder or roller skater.

The park is decked out with rails, stairs, grind ledges, hips, and a mini bowl area with concrete ramps and banks as obstacles. It’s free for all and BMX friendly if you're into that too.

Then there's the IS Skatepark, an indoor skateboarding facility in the Military Museum. It costs a little more than R10 to get access into it. It's a desirable skating location if you don't want to be among pedestrians and traffic.

You can also spend some money at a nearby skate shop. You can buy all manner of skating paraphernalia here; clothing, videos, shoes, boards and all kinds of skating novelties.

Wave House, Theatre of Shopping in Gateway, is also another area reserved for skateboarders. Actually, it's rather a board sport haven. Rollerbladers also come out to play here.

At 4 000 square meters, the space itself is overwhelmingly huge. It was designed by Tony Hawk, the ten-time World Skating Champion.

In Johannesburg there are numerous skating locations. In the Germiston area there's the Germiston Bowl. If you’re not sure about your skating business, don't push your luck here. The concrete riding surface may just deal a cracking blow to your skull if you’re not a hardcore and skilled boarder.

You can also ride at one of the Boogaloos skate parks. It’s no exaggeration to claim that the Boogaloos parks are designed so you may never leave.

In addition to the blanks, rails and bowl-like quarters galore, there's a constant stream of skating movies projected from a large screen. The riding material is wood.

And then of course there are the skate lounges, gaming centres and Vinyl mixers and a lot more distractions.

Areas with the Boogaloos skate parks include Monte Casino, Brightwater Commons and Festival Mall.

The Hartbees Holiday Resort also has a skate park. It's right by the swimming pools, so most boarders generally ride their boards and then take a swim. The riding material is metal.

Where are your favourite skating spots?
