The island of Rodrigues is about 560 km north east of Mauritius. So it makes for an alternative day trip on your next Mauritius getaway!

This day trip is just an hour and a half long flight away from central Mauiritus, the other alternative to visiting is a cruise - contact the Mauritius tourism office for more info.

It's landscape is a far cry from boring. Expect untouched beaches and terraced cultured fields. If you go beyond the valleys, you can explore forests protecting the golden bat. This species is unique to the area.

Summer lasts from November to April while winter is from May to October; when you’re planning a Rodrigues day trip, remember this. The climate is generally warmer and drier than in Mauritius. So cool off with a water activity or two!

Cuisine Rodrigues style

Expect recipes that combine decades of fool-proof recipes and fresh ingredients.
Try the tiny shellfish seasoned with coriander which make a delicious soup. The cono-cono salad is a must (the cono-cono is a shellfish the size of a fist and is an aphrodisiac, according to tradition!)

For dessert, choose between papaya or coconut pies with freshly grated coconut or flavoured with cinnamon, together with maize pudding.

Rodrigues is a real paradise for diving and other nautical activities. Two diving centres exist on the island since 1992. The venues are located in the south and in the east of the island. They both cater for all levels of diving.
