Eco-shopping is the new way to do your part for Mother Earth. With this concept in mind, Woodstock has welcomed an old newcomer to the neighbourhood, The Old Biscuit Mill.

The recently revamped mill is over 100 years old and situated in Albert Road in Woodstock, Cape Town. The Old Biscuit Mill is now home to young designers of every trade - and the perfect way to while away a weekend morning.

Open from 9am – 2pm, this European-style food market has over 80 stalls. Enjoy sampling the cheeses, breads, olives, yoghurts, vegetables, organic food, herbs and spices.

But that’s not all… indulge your creative side at the market. Here you can find ceramics, glassware, pottery, photography, fashion design, interiors or anything outrageous and adventurous. Fashion is not neglected as trendy stalls are all dotted in amongst the food places.

The concept of revamping The Old Biscuit Mill is largely due to the mushrooming eco-friendly lifestyle.

Local, farm-fresh, organic produce is sourced, with an emphasis on what the community has to offer - making for a unified, smooth running market.

It doubles up as a great place to meet some friends and enjoy the occasional live band or buskers - all the while enjoying some great organic delights.

The most poignant thing about this scene, despite the newness of the vibe, is the old mill sign. It stands out tall and proud, ringing in the history of the area.

Adding a unique touch are the classical, vintage motorcars on displayed at the mill. Quite intriguing. Some are either for sale or available for a day's rental.

Sticking to the eco-friendly concept, in conjunction with the local recycling initiative Save-All, The Old Biscuit Mill has a full service recycling depot on site. Here members of the local communities who drop off their pre-sorted recyclables. What more could you want.
