The Cape Winelands are not just about wine tasting or rigorous hiking trails. There are some great comforts if you're in the mood for something easy on the mind and body. Next time you find yourself in the Winelands, just look for some of these, they’ll do you good.

1. Who knew you could go chocolate tasting? In the Cape Winelands you can. Huguenot Fine Chocolates and Moniki Chocolates offer chocolate tasting sessions. A sugar rush is in order.

2. Cheese comes in way too many varieties and it’s boring to stick to just the few you know. Widen your palate and go cheese tasting. Kamili Cheese Farm and La Fromagerie at La Grange are nice places to check out.

3. Big lush flower gardens are the stuff of romantic films. Have your own romcom moment at Montagu Nature garden or the Paarl Mountain Reserve and Wildflower Garden.

4. When last did you really take time to look at butterflies? Like flowers they are a comforting sight and Butterfly World has a variety of species for your viewing pleasure and general knowledge expansion.

5. Fruit picking with a bunch of friends is one of the nicest things you can do in the Winelands. Don’t be laborious about it, it’s supposed to be leisurely. Go picking at Hillcrest Berry Orchards, Mooiberge Farm Stall or Table Grape Hex River Valley.

6. You don’t need a huge ocean liner to go on a cruise. If you’ve never tried it do it now. Take the Kolgans River Boat or the Vijoensdrift River Cruise just before sunset and wind down.

7. It’s not every day you get to ride a tractor. Actually, not many people ride tractors unless they grew up on a farm. Take the advantage and go on a leisurely tractor ride, it’s nothing too vigorous. Montagu Tractor and Muggievlak tractor rides are a good place to start.

8. If you’ve ever been interested you can learn how to craft while you’re idling in the Winelands. If you don’t have the patience maybe you can just observe others in the process. Art Africa, Elro Furniture Factory and Novello Alpaca Farm all offer educational craft workshops. Who said your mind had to turn to mush while you’re on holiday?

9. If your mind is open, visiting a place of worship can be very soothing. Visit Joie de Vivre for the history and Places of Worship for the culture.

10. On any given day, theatre is very good for you. In the Cape Winelands there’s Breughel Kleine Libertas, and The Barnyard theatre. Spend at least one night at one of them. It would be criminal not to.
