Summer’s around the corner and my toes arejust about ready to wriggle like mad in some surf and sand.

I’ll be the first to admit that the beach can be enjoyed at anytime of the year, no matter the season, but there’s nothing like hitting it during prime time. Sun, sea, sand, wafts of coconut-infused sun-block and lots of half-naked bronzing bodies. Okay, sometimes it’s lobster –red but we’re all there with the same singular purpose – relaxing.

Add some oomph to your summer holiday plans by taking a look at seven of the world’s sexiest beaches, as nominated by Forbes Traveler – and then cast your vote to decide which local beach you consider to be the best.

  • Tahiti Beach, St Tropez

Brigitte Bardot's ‘And God Created Woman' put St Tropez on the map back in the 50s and the town has since evolved into one of Europe's most sultry destinations. Plage de Tahiti has set itself apart as the place to hang out with the A-listers as it is surrounded by bars, cafes and a range of water sport operators. Do expect a bit of topless tanning.

  • Ipanema, Brazil

You'll find many a girl and guy walking along one of Rio's most famous stretches of sand. Like Cape Town's Clifton, it also has a 'gay beach' section. On Sundays the adjacent roadway closest to the beach is closed allowing local residents and tourists the freedom to ride bikes, roller skate, skateboard, and walk along the ocean.

  • Eleuthera, Bahamas

Eleathera has been described as an ink blot where God shook his pen before creating the rest of the world. With some 50 beach areas to explore it doesn't really matter that at certain points the 177km long island is only two lanes wide. Here you can delight in the pink sand and natural beauty that rivals its more famous neighbour Harbour Island.

  • Shoal Beach, Anguilla

Anguilla’s crescent-shaped shorelines plays host to the playful, romantic as well as the languid, cocktail sipping contingent of Little Harbour. But for something magical recline along the shores of Shoal Bay.

  • Macaroni beach, Mustique

Escape along the shores of Mustique, a private island, which forms part of the multi-isle nation of St Vincent and the Grenadines. It is owned and operated with impeccable efficiency by the Mustique Company and you can even expect to rub shoulders with the likes of Mick Jagger or David Bowie.

  • Byron Beach, Australia

Byron Bay forms part of Australia’s Gold Coast - one of the country's main attractions with nearly two million visitors per year. Expect chalk-white sands, temperate weather and the odd opportunity to swim with dolphins and migrating whales.

  • Playa d´en Bossa, Ibeza

Ibiza has become synonymous with hot summer parties. Playa d´en Bossa is well equipped beach has  restaurants, beach-chair and sunshade rentals as well as car-parks a plenty. This beach is reportedly also quite popular with naturists.

Submitted by sasima on Sun, 07/11/2010 - 15:06.

It is an excellent collection of World's sexiest beaches. All the beaches posted here are best places for fun and frolic. If am to vote for any beach, I would prefer Eleuthera, Bahamas for it has been described as an ink blot where God shook his pen before creating the rest of the world. Thanks for the post.bowflex treadclimber tc5000

Clifton

Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 03/01/2010 - 13:07.

Clifton is over rated, it is a beach for wanna be's. You might as well tan in your back yard cause the water is way too cold. Clifton is for all the so called models and all "sexy and yuppie" people. Fishhoek is is much nicer beach and the water is devine.

Beaches around the world

Submitted by Trev on Thu, 02/18/2010 - 02:21.

It depends what YOU want cause its seems its all about YOU. Are you young, do you swim or just sun tan or girlwatch, thats probably why the itilians love cape for the most beautiful girls in the world.
Most holiday makers go on holiday to the beach swim, litter, drink and drink and the rest then head off home. That when the beaches are beautiful when they gone home. I lived in Ballito and have retired to NZ only to safegard my bit of dough I have and thats my say. Come see NZ
w11nz&yahoo.co.nz you will be pleasantly suprised.
Everybody here lives in harmony black and coloured from SA and white and indian and boer. I work at a prison and we SA guys work together here because we sick of just what you read in all these articles.
enjoy ur stupid squabbles forever.

Isn't it amazing, we have a blog here to discuss beaches and some idiotic misfit throws racism into the brew.
Is there no subject at all that can be spoken about without someone starting a racism angle?
So much for reconciliation and tolerance! This is what makes S.A. suck!

Beaches

The sexiest and best beaches I have experienced by far are those in Croatia. They are spotlessly clean.

So agree (@alia)

Submitted by BexDav on Wed, 02/10/2010 - 00:41.

Totally agree with Alia that 'Baised Ratings' reeks of disguised disgruntled twonk! Don't buy it for a mo.

Clifton's awesome. Bikini Beach and Camps bay are fantastic and I love beaches in the bahamas too. Still think SA beaches are the most beautiful in the world.

Clifton Beach

Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 02/08/2010 - 09:27.

I love Clifton beach but what really annoys me is the millions of sigarette buts burried in the sand. Surely some people think smoking is the sexiest thing they can spend their time (and money) on but it is really irritating to go to a so called "blue flag" beach only to find the rubbish that the smokers leave behind. In general I believe that smokers are not concerned about the environment at all. Time to tidy up SMOKERS!!

@baised ratings

Submitted by Alia on Mon, 02/08/2010 - 08:31.

What a ridiculous post, and I am willing to bet that whoever wrote it is a racist white person.

"We as blacks are acustomed to being in a crowded vicinity from our background, the family of ten in a four bedroomed house... Why don't you leave us alone a nd take your Cape town with??!!!"? Sounds rather like undereducated racist white rhetoric very very poorly disguised to me. Some deliberate obvious spelling errors thrown in for good measure? including in your name itself. Because you need to show that after all 'them blacks is uneducated, undeserving and bitter'.

Why exactly do NONE of my black friends ever spew drivel like this? Why are they all, in fact, generous, erudite, intelligent, considerate and kind instead? Don't try perpetuate negative garbage. My black friends, be they from CT, Jozi or Durbs NEVER do, and so I find this cliched vitreol very fishy indeed. I'm willing to bet that '@biased ratings' is a disgruntled white ex-pat living in the UK or Canada or something.

Aside from that, and on to the beach topic, I'd say Kommetjie, Clifton, Kenton Main, Mazzepa and Boulders are some high contenders. Abroad, I like a some in Mauritius, Mozambique and the Seychelles, and Australia, Sicily, Thailand also has some beautiful beaches.

Dude, seriously, you pulled that hate from nowhere man. That was based on nothing thats been said in this forum. There have been mixed opinions about beaches everywhere and not just from Cape Town.

You're probably right when you say the ratings have been contributed by mostly mhlungus (looking at the forum, and no insult to everyone else), but no-one said "non-mhlungus" couldn't contribute to the ratings! Hopefully we'll have a more representative poll next time if people are willing to participate.

Relax and enjoy the view!!!

Baised Ratings

Submitted by Anonymous on Fri, 01/29/2010 - 21:50.

I will not be surprised if most of the comments here are from the white race hence Cape Town beacheas are rated highly. Who is in Cape Town anyway? The ratings are so subjective and based on whites way of seeing things. Durban is liked by blacks and all whites are running away from blacks and crowd themselves in a too whit city Cape Town. We as blacks are acustomed to being in a crowded vicinity from our background, the family of ten in a four bedroomed house, a situation created by the very same whites who view us a backward. Why don't you leave us alone a nd take your Cape town with??!!!

Which SA beach do you consider to be the best?

Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 01/13/2010 - 12:51.

What about : Victoria Bay, Wilderness Beaches, Swartvlei, Buffalo Bay etcand all the absolutely fantastic beaches along the Garden route. A lot of these beaches are quiet and uncrowded, and the nature unspoilt.

Byron Beach

Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 12/24/2009 - 12:16.

Byron Bay is categorically not part of the Gold Coast, which is a city in southern Queensland. Byron Bay is about an hour south in northern New South Wales.

Beaches

Submitted by Lexi on Sat, 12/12/2009 - 10:30.

The most beautiful beaches I have ever seen are definitely in South Africa. European beaches are unimaginably crowded in Summer, which is more or less the only time one can swim in them anyway. The Water on Cape Town's Atlantic Seaboard is cold, but the water in False bay is similar in temperature to San Trope, and in fact most of the Northern Mediterranean. Both places only allow reasonable swimming (18C or above) for 4 months of the year anyhow.

For those complaining about the crowded beaches in SA, you have no idea. A good European beach is like the 26th of December most days in a Summer! Coming here was like a total breath of fresh air.

I would chose the following (some based only on looks, some for swimming, atmosphere etc); Bikini Beach [ZA], Clifton [ZA], Fish Hoek beach [ZA], Kommetjie [ZA], Mondelo [IT], Pfeiffer Beach [USA], many beaches on the wild coast [ZA] many beaches in Mozambique, and many beaches in the Seychelles as well.

Dream Beach

Submitted by Rowan on Thu, 11/26/2009 - 13:31.

Cape Town beaches are right up there with the world's sexiest and most exotic. I must say though, Dream Beach off Bali truly lives up to it's name. Totally serene, isolated and surreal.

Overcrowding is no joke

Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 11/25/2009 - 14:16.

As far as sexy beaches go, you might as well ommit Cape Town beaches over the festive season. Clifton is known for being a pain from the onset of your visit: bumper to bumper traffic, zero parking and overcrowded beaches that gets messy at times. For those who fancy a swim - good luck with the cold water if you are not used to it (and have been fermenting for hours in the blazing sun) Also, the status as a topless beach is dwindling - thanks to the perverts with their long zoom lenses. As a true Cape Townian, I steer clear of Clifton and Camps Bay over December - any other time it is a dream, though. I suggest visitors to stick to the hotel swimming pools over this time.

Some good beaches

Submitted by Steve on Wed, 11/25/2009 - 13:23.

Some good local beaches:
- San Lameer beach - KZN
- Second Beach (Port St Johns) this was good years ago - today, not sure.
- J-Bay main beach
- St Francis Bay beaches

Some good overseas beaches:
- Waikiki beach - Hawaii
- Los Alcazarez beach - Spain
- Ponto d'Ouro beach - Mozambique
- Mykonos beaches - Greece (and all the other Greek islands)

and I'm going to Phuket (Thailand) in March which I'm sure has good beaches.

Happy Sunblocking!

SA beaches don't stack up

Submitted by DoogieB on Wed, 11/25/2009 - 13:02.

I've been blessed enough to have experienced some awesome beaches in Thailand, Mauritius, Moz and Oz to name some but Ipanema in Rio is really special because of the vibe and the people. Anyone ever been to Piran in Slovenia? World's best kept secret, what a place.

Black Beaches

Submitted by Avalanche on Wed, 11/25/2009 - 11:45.

Dont see Sandybay on the list. It should be there

MEDJUMBE

Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 11/25/2009 - 11:07.

Crowded beaches are a big "no-no". Medjumbe Island in northern Mozambique is awesome! A tiny island less than 1km long! That's what I call sexy....and romantic!

beaches

Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 11/25/2009 - 10:57.

none compares to the Seychelles - sand as white and soft as powder, water that is warm and little fish pecking at your legs - that is very rare, And you guaranteed to have a little stretch of beach all to yourself !!

Best Best Best

Submitted by Anonymous on Fri, 11/20/2009 - 14:43.

Clearly these scary cats don't want to indulge in the refreshing atlantic waters at Clifton, no wonder they all go to the Durban beaches. Look at the votes guys, Cape Town beaches are by far the best. Being a world traveler and have been on many of the world's best, Clifton is always a welcome come back...For the one thinking Karoo is an option, you go right ahead buddy...And for the one thinking that clifton is pritty but not sexy and you can only look at Cape Town; you clearly have no intention of getting under the skin of this city your loss.
Clifton is super sexy, it has some of the world's most beautiful and sexiest people alive every summer...So for the ones that are missing that, your loss.....

Clifton is pretty but not

Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 11/19/2009 - 09:02.

Clifton is pretty but not sexy. It is like most of the Cape Town, you can took at it but not realy use it.

SA BEACHES

Submitted by Mac on Wed, 11/18/2009 - 16:38.

What's the use of a beach if the waters too cold to swim.
Might as well lie on the sand in the Karoo and soak up the sunshine.
Atlantic beaches suck.

Nada

Submitted by Anonymous on Fri, 11/13/2009 - 18:31.

No way Cape Town Beaches are the best. The water is ice cold. KZN any time

Thailand is the best

The best beaches in the world you will find in Thailand!

Depends What You're Looking For

Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 11/09/2009 - 15:43.

A crowded beach is dreadful. For quieter beaches, where you actaully have room to move and can appreciate the beauty then the following top my list:
Definitely Noordhoek or Kommetjie beach for that real atlantic ocean, 'at one with nature' vibe, and for beatiful warm sea's, then Cape Vidal or Mapelane in KZN.

Cape beaches???!!!huh

Submitted by Roberto on Thu, 11/05/2009 - 20:55.

if cape beaches are 'hott' then you have not travelled!!..
as a joburger, durbs beaches are by far the best in this country..

Any beach is useless if the

Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 11/02/2009 - 08:59.

Any beach is useless if the sea is too cold to swim in. Cape Town's Atlantic beaches are all cursed with freezing cold water. Boulders, Seaforth, Fish Hoek and Muizenberg are the only swimmable ones. Strandfontein and Mnandi are way too dangerous as muggers and thieves are constantly lying in wait.

Best Beaches

Submitted by george on Mon, 11/02/2009 - 07:25.

I like the Cape Town Beaches- Llandudno , Sandy bay etc,.I am yet to find a good KZN beach. The best beaches for me is ihowever n the Eastern Cape; Sardinia Bay, Van stadens Beach, Port Alfred and some of the wild coast beaches.

some exquisite beaches have

Submitted by Anonymous on Fri, 10/30/2009 - 14:08.

some exquisite beaches have been left off this list, but i did want to say that i disagree that we have dirty or ugly beaches. We have some of the most amazing beach experiences in the world. I've spent time on beaches in Spain, on the east coast around valencia and on the South Coast around Malaga and Gibraltar. beautiful beaches, but can also be very dirty. But the beach in Barcelona is possibly the most disgusting beach i have ever been to in my life. It is absolutely covered in plastic and stompies and glass, and beacasue drinking in public is legal everyone is pissed and raucous (and not in a good way).

I forgot some!

Submitted by Alisa on Mon, 10/26/2009 - 13:07.

I need to add also Llandudno (South Africa), Spiagge Grande (Amalfi), Anse Cocos and La Digue (Seychelles), Camargue and St Tropez (France), Five Mile Beach (South Africa) and the Boulders Beach (South Africa)

Kelly's Beach

Submitted by Geoff on Mon, 10/26/2009 - 12:55.

BTW, Kelly's beach is at Port Alfred and not Port St Johns!

Clifton

Submitted by Geoff on Mon, 10/26/2009 - 12:51.

The time that Clifton becomes really sexy is when the beautiful boats are ancored there. This can't happen at any other SA beaches.

Most beautiful beaches

Submitted by Alisa on Mon, 10/26/2009 - 12:02.

I'm Italian, so this has a bias. But I think that still South Africa has the most beautiful of all. Around the whole world some I think or are (in an alphabetical order):

Bikini Beach (Clarens Drive, South Africa)
Bloubergstrand (Cape Town, South Africa)
Bondi Beach (Australia)
Camps Bay (Cape Town, South Africa)
Capri (Italy)
Cathedral Cove (New Zealand)
Clifton (Cape Town, South Africa)
Copocabana (Rio)
Egremni (Greece - Lefkada)
Gold Rock Beach (Bahamas)
Guludo Beach (Mozambique)
Ipanema (Rio)
Kenton on Sea (Cape Town, South Africa)
Kometjie Beach (Cape Town, South Africa)
Maremma Beach (Tuscany, Tuscany)
Margaret River (Australia)
Maya Bay (Thailand)
Noordhoek Beach (Cape Town, South Africa)
Pangkor Beaches (Malaysia)
Pfeiffer Beach (Big Sur, California)
San Vito lo Capo, Scopello and Mondelo (all in Sicily)
Wild Coast (numerous beaches like Mazeppa, South Africa)

I do not understand when people say the beaches here arenot safe? I have never had any problem and have been here years. I truly think the beaches here are the most beautiful I have ever seen around the world.

camps bay - overated - what a waste

Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 10/26/2009 - 09:57.

we drove all the way from joburg to see what all the fuss was about. The water was icy cold (i had brain freeze) even though it was boiling hot and it is over crowded. So we spent 5 minutes under the showers and when back to the hotel to swim.

I think Plettenberg bay and St Francis are far superior.

Clifton?? Campsbay?? YOu must be joking

Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 10/26/2009 - 09:20.

Over rated...theres no way Clifton or Camps bay is rated tops...based on the beaches you find in False bay or in other places in South Africa...Clifton can never ever compare...
