South African beaches can be quite an arduous experience during the summer peak season. But the KwaZulu-Natal coastline is an off-season haven according to those in the know.

I’ll tell you a little secret – my burning curiosity often acts as a guide when it comes to discovering interesting places. This time it wasn’t any different.

That image we all have of a glistening white beach being lapped by brilliant blue waves most probably stems from a photograph originally taken at Mauritius' tourist magnet - Grand Baie.
