CNN Traveller magazine has made a shortlist of South Africa's Best Hotels.
The list is as follows:
Best for ecology - Phantom Forest Eco Reserve
Phantom Forest is set in the hills overlooking the Knysna Lagoon and has won a whackload of awards for its attitude to sustainable green initiatives in the way it runs. Best for luxury - Pepper Club Luxury Hotel & Spa, Cape Town
Located right in town, the hotel's features include opulent interiors, a contemporary cuisine-themed restaurant, an intimate private cinema, a swimming pool with panoramic views, a fully-equipped gymnasium, a luxurious spa, 24-hour concierge service and security. Best for quirks - The Grand Daddy Hotel, Cape Town
This totally distinctive hotel, with its particular themes and artwork, quality music and entertainment, comfort, location, just hits a serious level of unique awesomeness. If you're in Cape Town, you should visit it - on your first night here, preferably.
Best for seclusion - Timamoon Lodge, Sabie River Valley
Timamoon is a gorgeous, sexy hideaway set high up in the hills and surrounded by forests and close to the Kruger Park & Blyderiver Canyon. Each of the luxurious Moroccan and Zanzibar styled lodges are romantic and private, with mosquito net draped four-poster beds, large fireplaces and baths to float away in. Best for business - Saxon Boutique Hotel and Spa, Johannesburg
The Saxon is located in Sandhurst in Johannesburg - the continent's economic powerhouse. Most business is done here and this hotel provides a superb base for dealings in the area. Top quality facilities, easy location and the exclusive area make it hard for business travellers to turn it down. (Image from hotel website)
Best for wilderness - Ka'ingo Private Reserve & Spa, Limpopo
Ka'ingo, in a malaria-free zone, is a grand choice for a wildlife escape. Take the Big 5, but throw in bush walks, rock paintings AND wine tastings. If that's not a glorious combination of things then I don't know what is.

The Orient boutique hotel in Gauteng holds it's own on each of these criteria and would beat any of the hotels mentioned overall. |

The hotels mentioned in your top hotel list are obviously all 5 star hotels so useless information to the average earner who would love an affordable holiday at an affordable price. |
