Camps Bay has first dibs on that summer look. It's like this, if you're in Cape Town and you spend the whole season without spending a full day in Camps Bay, can you really say you've experienced summer?

Here are more reasons why we love the bay.

1. The beach

How rad is that beach? It can be intimidating sometimes because the hot bodies on display might induce panic in some of us whose bodies didn't get the memo. Otherwise, the white sands and the masses of people just make it all very party beach central

2. The pipe trail

This flat walking trail gets its name from the old water pipe it follows at the top of Camps Bay. You can take in spectacular views of the bay at a leisurely pace.

3. Theatre on the Bay

It's nice to know that you can spend the whole day being lazy at the beach. Then later that night show off your glowing tan at the theatre. It's a nice one too; perfect for big shows.

4. Dizzy's Jazz Café

There's something really casual but grownup about eating good food on a summer day while listening to jazz music. And the fact that you can actually do this in beachy Camps Bay makes it the perfect atmosphere.

5. Celeb spotting

If you like to see the rich and famous looking casual and relaxed, Camps Bay is one of the most reliable magnets. Check them out at Café Caprice where you go to see or to be seen.

6. Fishy heaven

You can't go to Camps bay and not eat some kind of seafood. It's rude. Especially as there are so many places to choose from. Some of the best include the Codfather, Yo Sushi, and Sunset Beach.

7. Sinnful ice cream

There's ice cream and then there's ice cream (users of this phrase will know which is fiercer). The appropriately named Sinnful has too many flavours to mention. It's the kind of ice cream that puts other contenders to bed.

8. Wine outside the Winelands

Wine tasting is such a Cape Town thing. It's normally done in a day trip to the Winelands. But if you'd like your wine tasting and still keep your beach time, check out Deli at the Bay.

9. Sundowners

Catch the perfect summer sunset here from the beach or from one of the many nice bars in the area. Popular bars on the strip include Baraza, Eclipse and Caprice.

10. Beach shopping

If you like your summer with a bit of shopping, Camps bay doesn't disappoint on that front either. Albeit it's shopping of the beach variety. Victoria Road is home to surf shops and street vendors selling anything from swimwear, towels to sarongs and napkin rings.

Mkhize why don't you take

Submitted by siswe on Tue, 12/09/2008 - 12:03.

Mkhize why don't you take you finger out of your rectum and then take a leisurely walk off the side of a nearest cliff? You are just jealous because I don't have a flat nose like you. Maybe you should join your 'brothers' in Palookaville!

Submitted by Mkhize on Thu, 12/04/2008 - 14:09.

Sizwe I suppose you would prefer to spend your holiday in Gugulethu. I'm sure you and your dog will enjoy "pooing" (really its the 21st century) crapping all over the place. Its idiots like you that give the rest of us brothers a bad name. Get a little bit more positive about life and maybe you'll start enjoying yourself a bit more.

I lived in Camps Bay for 2

Submitted by Juan on Wed, 12/03/2008 - 14:44.

I lived in Camps Bay for 2 Years it is an Overrated Dump as for Celebs
Do you mean thoes wannabe actors from one of the local soaps or from that crummy and cramped theatre on the Bay? The Beach is not Good for swimming either in fact it can be very unsafe at times due to the slope at the waters edge and during filming season the place is infested by arrogant filmcrews who just block your driveways and roads for hours and try to tell you when you can walk or drive down your own street without consulting you beforehand. Stuff that its the worst place i have ever lived in there are much better looking and safer beaches elsewhere

Sinnful has the best ice

Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 12/03/2008 - 13:33.

Sinnful has the best ice cream, Baraza has the best view (music a bit loud though) and Caprice has the yummiest chicken salad.

Sizwe, shame kiddo...it must

Submitted by ben on Wed, 12/03/2008 - 10:35.

Sizwe, shame kiddo...it must really suck being you. Why hate people for having money, working hard for that money and then enjoying it on the finer things of life. I think you should take a minute to thank all those "flashy" people from Camps Bay, they more than likely pay for your salary. As for your opinion of not liking Camps Bay, great, those of us who do enjoy the bay dont like idiots like you being there...why not go enjoy the Rietvlei?

The great Camps Bay debacle

Submitted by Peeking duck on Tue, 12/02/2008 - 17:08.

The great Camps Bay debacle can be solved as such:

* Everyone who hates Camps Bay on the one side of the road (not the beach side of course)
* Everyone who loves Camps Bay on the other side
* Everyone who doesnt like beaches go jump off a cliff

Right..now with both parties assembled...

"Put you right foot out and take your right foot in..put your left foot out...

..do the hokey pokey..."

Be wary

Submitted by d on Tue, 12/02/2008 - 16:41.

A guy stole my wallet and cellphone out of my backpack on the beach one late afternoon. He was trained well: 1 minute he was sitting next to my bag, and when I got to my bag he was gone. And we were only 15m away from the bag. When you go there, watch out for young guys hanging around. Be aware.

Blouberg local here. I'm

Submitted by Richard on Tue, 12/02/2008 - 16:25.

Blouberg local here. I'm personally not a fan of Camps Bay (Caprice is tottaly overrated), or for sitting on the beach for an entire day at a time. Way too boring. I'll gladly surf the whole day or go diving for hours, but Camps Bay sucks for both, so I'll give the stuckup and plastic camps bay crowd a miss, thanks very much

Also, lol at siswe and ash.

PS Big up to the Table View massiv.

Hey Simon, now we're talking. Us TableView/Blouberg guys are the real down to earth ones. No flashy, materialistic peple here. Agree, there is lots of 'Daddy's money' in all those snobby Camps Bay handouts. wonder if any of the youngsters with flashy cars ever worked for it or was rather given to them by daddy.

Sizwe and Ash

Submitted by Simon Sez on Tue, 12/02/2008 - 14:23.

Wow... Ive never seen such cat fighting over an article... you'd swear that Ashley Wrote it, Sizwe, your points are very one sided, yes camps bay might be the Sunset strip in Cape Town and "might" be filled with rich flashy ppl, but you know what, those ppl have a right to be flashy and drive the sports cars and spend their days ppl watching, and yes it can be entertaining, but having a bashing session about Ash is un-called for.

Ash, if you ever need some one to sit with you share a couple of drinks and PPL watch, i'll be there anytime. I find it quite amusing.

However I have met some of the most stuck up ppl while sitting at Caprice and personally flattened the nose of a Snotty arrogant upstart who thought that money means you have power.. unfortunately for him this Tableview boy who doesnt drive a Porsche put him in his place....

And Sizwe I think your place is faaar faaar away from Camps Bay...

ASh.... Catch ya on the Strip! :)

Wow, you sound like you had a nasty experience at Camps Bay or are just jealous...

Either way Camps bay is a fasinating place. We go down to CT every December, although we don't frequent Camps Bay that regularly.

CT is one helluva place.

Nice Try Ashley!

... You should add "IMPERSONATOR" to your list of prospective careers. Right after peeping-tom, village idiot, easy lay and Camps Bay public relations officer.

Who knows, maybe one day in your sad little life you will grow up, realize you have a pair of boobs, and then move on to a bigger and brighter future in areas of the country where women don't have dicks that put mine to shame. Camps Bay should be named Hermaphrodite Central!

Camps Bay

Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 12/02/2008 - 12:19.

The only reason I go to Camps Bay is to go to Dizzy's. Great vibe, great pizzas and friendly waiters. The rest of Camps Bay however, I don't find that great - the water is too cold, some of the people are just too "plastic" and I've had horrible service at some of the beachfront restaurants.

Ashley drives a Toyota?

Submitted by siswe on Tue, 12/02/2008 - 11:55.

So you enjoy people-watching Ashley? You have nothing better to do than watch others while your own little life whittles away to obscurity? If your desire in life is to watch overly-flatulent people prancing around on a sandy beach pretending to be peacocks with balls then I am afraid there is no hope for you and you might as well get laid by the nearest beggar.

Perhaps you should become a private investigator seeing as though you enjoy watching people so much. Or perhaps your talents are best served as a voyeur or peeping tom!

Regardless, Camps Bay still sucks and only the plastic, peeping toms and general village idiot-type people like it there.

I agree with the comments

Submitted by vims on Tue, 12/02/2008 - 11:46.

There are so many beautiful things to do in CT that spending a whole day in Camps Bay is a waste. Its worth a coffee but thats about it. Unless you have tons of money to throw away showing off to people you don't know and probably don't want to know.

What about Blouberg, Artscape, FalseBay. You want nice seafood go to Blowfish or CTFM. There is so much more that if I had to carry on I think 24.com would ban me for comments that are too long :-)

You forgot to mention...

Submitted by Marianne on Tue, 12/02/2008 - 11:45.

...The Grand - stunning new restaurant just opened across the road from Caprice - a little pricey, but very stylish, and you never feel rushed.

Camps Bay love

Submitted by Jeremy on Tue, 12/02/2008 - 11:43.

Wow, you've just reminded me about Sinnful - I couldn't remember what the place was called - we went their last year when we were in Cape Town, and the place is sublime. Can't wait to visit again when we're down for New Years.

Oh for pity's sake

Submitted by Ashley on Tue, 12/02/2008 - 11:41.

Siswe, please try to express yourself without resorting to this kind of language, that way people may actually see your point rather than being disgusted by your expression.

Yes, Camp's Bay does have a certain amount of plasticity to it, but many people actually enjoy 'people-watching', and this is what makes Camps Bay so enjoyable. I've spent many hours outside Bayside and Caprice (I drive a Toyota by the way) and I've found the people who hang out there young, vibrant, interesting and friendly.

Thanks for a great article guys. I don't know why so many commentators across the 24.com sites feel it's a personal invitation to vent vitriol.

Siswe, I hope you have a great holiday, wherever you spend it.

You walk...

Submitted by Siswe on Tue, 12/02/2008 - 11:34.

Camps Bay is happening? If you call a bunch of rich plastic fakes hanging out in front of the ocean admiring other overly-flatulent rich plastic fakes 'happening' then I guess you are a turd. There is nothing appealing about Camps Bay and even my dog wouldn't bother to poo there!

You have probably never

Submitted by H on Tue, 12/02/2008 - 11:05.

You have probably never spent a day away from your kraal.
All the article is trying to say is that Camps is happening!!!!!

Camps Bay is for losers

Submitted by Siswe on Tue, 12/02/2008 - 10:47.

Camps Bay sucks. It is for the over-flatulent rich folk and their silly little sports cars. If you are not a 'beach' person then Camps Bay has absolutely NOTHING to offer. The people there are mostly fakes with snotty attitudes and walk around all day with nothing but silly grins on their faces showing off their million dollar porcelain teeth. The women are all easy lays and the guys are just there to show off their overly-tanned biceps and nipples!

The summer experience

Submitted by CTheB on Tue, 12/02/2008 - 10:07.

I've experienced many summers without having spent a single full day in Camps Bay. Fortunately I don't feel the need to see or be seen and given how much Cape Town has to offer I've never felt like I'm missing anything by not spending that time in Camps Bay. It's very nice to go there - I stopped there for a cup of coffee at Vida on a cycle around the mountain last weekend, but I'm pretty sure I'd get bored spending an entire day there since I don't enjoy just sitting on the beach.
