More than 250 visitors were stuck on Table Mountain on Sunday night after a faulty hydraulic pump prevented the cable car from docking properly, the SABC reports. All of them, including about 60 staff members were however brought to safety before midnight.
The visitors were given temporary shelter, food and drinks at the restaurant on top of mountain while the problem was fixed.
Sabine Lehmann, CEO of Table Mountain Cable Way told the national broadcaster that they had to take people down the mountain very slowly, but that everyone reached the bottom safely. "Usually the cable way takes five minutes to get to the bottom of the station, this time it took about 20 minutes. So we could only take three an hour," she explained.

We keep a copy of Puppy Linux burned at the Co-op, and it's ploapur with one of our members. I shy away from using it because it is less user friendly. The risk is increased that the laptop won't be used because it's not as user-friendly, or worse, that the user willbelieve "that's what Linux is" and won't try a more full-featured Linux distribution based on their impression of Puppy.I have also tried Xubuntu, and found it needed only slightly less resources than Ubuntu, but was also noticeably less user friendly. I still consider Puppy an option, but I would first confirm for certain that Ubuntu would have unacceptable performance on the hardware. |

Stay away from th emountain is my motto. I know peopl ewho were stuck up there. Also, apparently this has happened before, Is there a maintaenance plan being enforced on the cable way? |
