Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
October 7th, 2008
Kalahari Tented Camp is fairly new and is one of the "Wilderness" camps for which there has obviously been a demand.
It is closer to Nossob than Twee Rivierien but still a good 5-6 hours drive due to the condition of the road.
Built high up on a red sand dune overlooking the (dry) Aub River, its situation is stunning. The accommodation is in luxury tents with en suite showers and flush loos. There is solar electricity but its uses are limited. The kitchen is a separate small edifice, separated from the main tent by a pebbled patio with braai.
The tent and patio are perched right on the edge of the high dune and below in the river bed is a waterhole.
At Kalahari tented Camp there is no shop or restaurant and no fences or gates. One is warned to be careful walking around at night as lions have been known to come into the camp.
One of our pleasures at Kalahari tented Camp was to watch a fmaily of meercats, in the dunes right below us, going busily about their daily activities. This was by far the most expensive camp of our stay but I would definitely choose to stay there again.
