Hotel bar functions aren't my usual haunt as the drinks are usually over-priced and the company usually stuffy execs looking for a girl to take their mind off the money.

However, an evening of drinks at the Protea Fire and Ice Hotel was quite something different from my assumptions.

Royale

Royale in Long Street in Cape Town is hamburger heaven. While you're likely to pay around R60 for a burger - it's definitely worth the extravagance. I had the Miss Piggy, and the burger was huge! I must admit I had to keep eating even after I felt full! The crowning glory is Royale's delicious sweet potato fries. If you're in Cape Town, be sure to visit.

Auberge Michel

If you want to enjoy a culinary feast then head off to this chic restaurant in Sandown Johannesburg. It’s French fine dining lives up to its five-star rating by the SA Tourism Grading Council – but if you’re into big portions then this is definitely not for you. Here food is all about the experience, which apparently includes your appearance, no sloppy joes are welcome.
