The Gauteng Getaway Show brought to you by Mercedes-Benz Vans is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2012.
The show returns to the Coca-Cola dome this month to once again showcase South Africa's favourite outdoor and travel magazine brought to life.
Every year Gauteng readers and Getaway fans get to see, touch and feel the spirit of Getaway magazine in an interactive and informative 3D experience of beautiful and unusual destinations, affordable accommodation, the latest outdoor gear and gadgets, 4 x 4 vehicles and accessories, camping equipment and incredible adventures - all under one roof.
Proof of the weight that the Getaway show carries is the fact that South African Tourism is this year partnering with it to launch Tourism Month.
SA's Minister of Tourism, Martinus Van Schalkwyk will officially open the Gauteng Getaway Show on Friday 31 August.
Last year saw over 250 exhibitors playing host to more than 20 000 visitors. This year the bar is promised to be raised even higher - offering more show specials, more interactive workshops and even more indoor and outdoor activity.
Gauteng's premier travel and outdoor show promises visitors an opportunity to compare travel ideas, snap up great deals and win trips - all while being exposed to the latest and greatest in terms of camping equipment, outdoor gear, 4 x 4 products and accessories, caravans, trailers and more.
Big prizes up for grabs!
Everyone's a winner at the Gauteng Getaway Show, with hundreds of prizes up for grabs - visitors won't walk away empty handed. The Spin-and-Win will see participants walk away with weekend breakaways, gear, meal vouchers and lots more. Jump on the numbered mat, watch the wheel spin and if it stops on your number, you're a winner! All visitors are encouraged to enter the main show competition to stand a chance to win a five-night bush getaway for eight people to Pumba Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape, worth R250 000, courtesy of SA Tourism and Mercedes-Benz Vans.
Workshops and speakers
This entertaining show also offers inspiration in the way of photography workshops. Hosted by Getaway photojournalist, Dylan Kotze, visitors can get a crash course in travel and wildlife photography - all the way from pre- shoot preparation to processing tips.
More inspiration can be found on Sanlam's stand where Riaan Manser will recount stories from his recent odyssey. Having battled the Arctic elements with partner Dan Skinstad - after a 2 300-kilometer, five-month adventure circumnavigating Iceland in a double kayak, he's certainly someone visitors to the show will want to meet.
One of the new additions to this years' show is the Best Value Wine tastings. The prize-winning wine farms featured in the Best Value Wine Guide 2013 will be there to offer visitors a relaxing wine tasting and an opportunity to buy some of their favourite wines.
